Honeysuckle japonica ‘Halliana’ is a classic cottage garden climber with tubular white flowers that mature to a buttery shade of yellow. The scented blooms of this Japanese honeysuckle fill the air with an evocative sweet perfume from April to August. As the flowers fade, clusters of glossy red berries take their place, providing a valuable food source for birds. This semi evergreen climber holds an RHS AGM for its outstanding garden performance. Perfect for twining over the front porch, scaling walls and fences or scrambling into mature shrubs and trees. A lovely addition to woodlands, wildlife areas and cottage gardens

How to Grow

Plant honeysuckle against a suitable, sturdy support such as trellis or strong wires attached to walls and pergolas, in fertile, moist, free draining soil. Poor soils can be improved by adding plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. Choose a position in sun or semi-shade. When growing honeysuckle in patio containers, use soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
Care
Feed and water lonicera regularly throughout the growing season until they are fully established. Check young shoot tips regularly as honeysuckle plants are susceptible to aphid damage, particularly when grown in full sun. Prune immediately after flowering, first removing the oldest stems, then reducing the remaining stems to restrict their vigorous growth to the available space. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant in spring. Caution: Honeysuckle berries are harmful if eaten.
