Acer palmatum ‘Trompenburg’ has a slow growing habit, making this plant not only distinctive amongst other Maple’s, but ideal for small gardens with limited space, where it can be planted in a large container or in the ground. This fantastic Japanese Maple can be grown as a deciduous shrub or small tree with a spectacular rounded shape. The narrowly 7-lobed foliage is deep red-purple in spring with recurved margins, becoming greener in summer and orange-red in autumn.

How to Grow

You can grow Acer palmatum trees in any moist, fertile, well drained soil in sun or dappled shade. It is quite important to give plants shelter from strong winds which can scorch the leaves. Alternatively grow the Japanese Maple in large containers, using a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.
Watering
Water regularly throughout the growing season until Acer trees are well established, and always protect your plants from strong winds. Acers require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems if necessary from late autumn to midwinter.
