The Morus nigra Welllington Mullberry is a black fruited mulberry. Its harvest starts at the end of June and lasts throughout the summer until September. The fruit is large and very aromatic and is very sweet, tasting their very best freshly picked from the tree. Drying the fruit is also popular in the winter season as it can be used as a snacking food.

It has very few demands on the soil and the best option for a productive summer harvest is a well-drained humus-rich substrate. During extreme heat and periods of drought, you will need to water the mulberry. It is also best planted where the fruit cannot fall onto items like parked vehicles or footpaths and it likes sunny, sheltered areas. The mulberry is very hardy withstanding temperatures as low as -27 degC.
