Blackcurrant Ben Tirran is a late flowering self fertile variety bred in Scotland. It’s a vigorous grower but it’s compact too & crops in late July. Being late flowering the flowers should miss late frosts.

The attractive glossy fruit has a rich tart flavour and freezes well. It’s ideal for jam making or pies bu can be eaten fresh if you like a sharp flavour.

Grows to a height and spread of 1½m (5ft).

Good disease resistance.

They prefer slightly acidic, moisture retentive & well-drained soil in full sun or light shade.

Mix in to you soil an organic soil improver and general fertiliser with the infill soil. Water regularly until established.

The fruit is produced on previous year’s branches. Cut back all shoots to within 2-3 buds of soil level after planting. In the third year cut weak and damaged shoots. From year 3 cut back third of the older branches. Apply a general fertilizer in spring.
